Dr. Mary-Joan Nwaogu is a poet, playwright, author, educator, and advocate for children's literacy. Born on 18/6/68, she holds a B.Ed. in Elementary Education, and M.Sc. & Ph.D. degrees in Psychology. Her career is characterized by a commitment to fostering children's creative abilities and enhancing their literary skills. She has authored over 20 books and has been a significant influence in the development of children's literature in Nigeria. She is also the co-founder of Genius Libra Consult and has been the publisher of Genius Books since 2005. Dr. Nwaogu is collaborating with schools to establish book clubs that aim to enhance children's literary proficiency. She has mentored many children to become published authors, as she has dedicated her career to fostering creativity in children. Her book, ‘Kuffour and His Talking Environment,’ earned her the 1st Runner-Up position for the Akachi Ezeigbo Prize for (Children's) Literature in 2024. In 2025, her mentorship programmes have also earned her awards for herself and her publishing firm from Poets in Nigeria.
